About the PABT
2020 Obon Festival Cancelation
Our world is going through unprecedented and difficult times in the face of the COVID-19 coronavirus. PABT's suspension of all services, activities, and events at least through August 31, 2020 has precipitated the cancelation this year's Obon Festival. The cancelation, although sad, was made for the health and safety of all the event participants.
The annual Obon and Bazaar has traditionally been one of the favorite events of the year, not only for the Temple membership but also the local community and beyond. The annual event is also the Temple's biggest fundraiser of the year and the loss of its revenue due to the Obon weekend's cancelation, will be considerable. Please consider donating to the Temple as your donations will help offset the lost revenue. Please see the donate link on this page.
Temple member, Carl Yanari, created the video below. In it are highlights of last year's 2019 Obon. Tracy Okamoto, our current Temple president, provides an opening statement. Since we can't participate in the Obon this year, at least we can enjoy some images of last year's event.
REMINDER: The Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) is hosting their BCA VIRTUAL OBON DANCE on August 15th, at 6:00 PM PDT. Obon instructors from BCA temples will be sharing their dances so you can watch and participate. A Zoom link will be distributed to temple leaders. For more information, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org or call (510) 809-1460.
