WELCOME TO THE PALO ALTO BUDDHIST TEMPLE
LIVING A LIFE OF GRATITUDE
Everyone is welcome at our temple. We hope you’ll enjoy learning, living, and experiencing the teachings of the Buddha together with our members to make compassion, kindness, and selflessness a bigger part of all our lives.
LIVE A HAPPIER MORE FULFILLING LIFE
Learn to awaken yourself to your inner potential. Realize the power of self to control your emotions and discover the cause of suffering and how to lead a more balanced, happy life everyday.
Revered Dean Koyama is our resident minister and leads us in our discovery of living a Dharma-centered life.
EXPERIENCE THE DHARMA THROUGH ACTIVITIES
We have several groups and activities for our community to experience and practice the Dharma together. We offer: Dharma School (K-12), Youth Group, Sangha Sessions (discussion group after service), Buddhist Study Group, Book Club, Taiko (Japanese drums), Bonsai Club, Senior Luncheon, Aikido, Judo, Kendo, Summer Culture School for kids, Buddhist Women’s Association, Yuwakai, Choir, Meditation, and Yoga, as well as many other events.
ENJOY WITH YOUR WHOLE FAMILY
Our members represent four, even five generations of families. We recently held a 90th anniversary celebration where the theme was “A Special Place”.
Our Dharma School teaches our children to live a life of compassion and selflessness (vs. selfishness), be kind to others, and to respect others and all beings.
You’ll find that whether young or old, the temple spirit can be felt through the Sangha (our members) who embody the Dharma (Buddhist teachings) in everything we do, from our services to the volunteer and outreach work we do.
CELEBRATE AND SHARE TOGETHER
Our biggest event of the year is our annual Obon Festival, where the whole temple comes together to host our biggest celebration and fundraiser of the year.
Thousands of friends and neighbors join us for food, games, dancing, exhibits, and educational Buddhist sessions the first weekend of August.
If you have a talent for baking, cooking, dancing, or simply enjoy Japanese culture, you’ll love being a part of our summer fun.
"May all beings be happy and well, may no harm or difficulty come to them, may they live in peace and harmony"
